The Treaty of Waitangi is a topic that has prompted much debate over the years.
Environment Bay of Plenty is well aware of this talk and as a response has set out a compact digest, which can be used by both staff and our public as a ready reference as to how we view and carry out our responsibilities under the Treaty of Waitangi.
This toolbox, which Environment Bay of Plenty is committed to continuously develop and review, includes (among other things) the various versions of the Treaty, the statutory obligations regarding the Treaty, and the various initiatives that Environment Bay of Plenty has implemented to acknowledge its role in promoting the sustainable social, economic, environmental and cultural well being of the Bay of Plenty regional community.
In creating this toolbox, Environment Bay of Plenty recognises the Treaty of Waitangi as an integral part of the unique history of this country and the role that it continues to play in today’s society. The Treaty of Waitangi is an important pillar of our bi-cultural heritage.
