When thinking of constructing a bridge, please consider the following points:
- will it have the least impact on waterways and aquatic life
- it can be used during floods
- it can be an expensive option
- there are design weight restrictions apply
- it can be constructed as permitted activity when applying to the above restrictions
Other conditions include:
- the catchment area above the bridge shall be equal to or less than 100ha
- there is no excavation or infilling of the stream bank
- abutments or foundations are parallel to the stream flow
- structure is anchored to prevent washing away in a flood
