Waioeka at Cableway

The
Cableway water level and rainfall recorder is situated on the Waioeka River in
the middle of the Waioeka catchment, between the township of Opotiki and the
City of Gisborne.
The site
commonly records dramatic rises in water level in response to heavy rain.
Summer water levels at this site can get as low as 1.6 metres, but normal water
levels are closer to 2.0 metres. A high flood water level of 10.2 metres was
recorded at this site in July 1998.
The
site records a mean annual rainfall of 2370 mm and daily falls up to 250 mm.
