Our region's lakes are popular for many forms of recreation. In the Rotorua District, the Rotorua Lakes are nationally significant as natural assets of great beauty.
The term “Rotorua Lakes” refers to the twelve large lakes manages through the Rotorua Lakes Protection and Restoration Action Programme:
- Lake Okareka
- Lake Okaro
- Lake Okataina
- Lake Rerewhakaaitu
- Lake Rotoehu
- Lake Rotoiti
- Lake Rotokakahi (Green Lake)
- Lake Rotoma
- Lake Rotomahana
- Lake Rotorua
- Lake Tarawera
- Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake)
However, in recent years deteriorating water quality in some of them has tarnished this reputation. These webpages hold information about the management of these Rotorua Lakes to protect and improve their water quality.
