The Browns
Bridge water level and rainfall recorder is situated in the mid Otara catchment
some 18 km upstream of Opotiki, with a total catchment area of 239 km2.
Summer water
levels at this site can get as low as 0.57 metres, but normal water levels are
closer to 1.0 metre. A high flood level of 4.6 metres was recorded at this site
in May 1996.
The site
records a mean annual rainfall of 1600 mm and daily falls of up to 140 mm.
